COTO DE CAZA/RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (October 31, 2012) – In recognition of his contributions to the community, the Rotary Club of Coto de Caza/Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol will honor Jim Poettgen, owner of BallPark Pizza, at the 4th annual “Ethics in Business Award Breakfast.” The event will take place Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 a.m. at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita. Image“Jim Poettgen has helped more local organizations than any other business in Rancho Santa Margarita by donating food and discounts, and devoting his time and talents to the community,” said Jeffrey Sawyer, president of the Rotary Club of Coto de Caza/ Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol. “He is a clear choice for this award because he exemplifies Rotary International’s values of truth, fairness, goodwill, and helping others."

Poettgen brought BallPark Pizza to Rancho Santa Margarita in 1990 after he opened and operated other locations with his wife, Diane and their business partners. A family-owned operation, BallPark Pizza is the first job for many teenagers in Rancho Santa Margarita, where Poettgen teaches his employees respect, accountability and integrity. In addition to serving the members of his community, Poettgen has implemented the use of recyclable materials at BallPark Pizza to protect the environment.

Since he moved to Rancho Santa Margarita 22 years ago, Poettgen has continuously been an active member of his community. He served on the city’s Economic Development Committee and he is a founding member of Educate Rancho, a non-profit organization that provides funding for schools in the community. As a supporter of local sports, Poettgen has been a track & field coach for Santa Margarita Catholic High School for 16 years and has helped sponsor teams and fundraisers for more than 20 years.
